Starting August 4, Amazon will introduce a simplified system for seller ratings that allows customers to rate sellers more quickly—even without a written review. Tests show that this process results in more and often more positive ratings. If customers give fewer than 4 stars, they are required to specify a reason; offensive reviews will now be automatically detected and removed.
What do sellers need to pay attention to?
Monitor seller rating and Buy Box: A higher feedback score has a direct impact on Buy Box eligibility. Report suspicious or abusive entries using “Report a violation” to trigger an additional review by Amazon.
Service quality as protection from negative star ratings: Since a poor purchase can be rated with a single click, the risk of negative reviews rises noticeably with inadequate service. Shipping speed, return processes, and product packaging should therefore be critically reviewed.
Actively leverage increased review volume: The new system significantly lowers the barrier for customers. Proactive feedback management thus becomes more important: Follow-up emails via Amazon Buyer-Seller Messaging should be reviewed and optimized.
