As of August 24, 2026, Amazon is fundamentally changing the shipping cost models for Fulfillment by Merchant (FBM). Shipping costs based on item price will be completely eliminated. Rules such as free shipping on orders over €39 or tiered shipping costs up to €50 are no longer possible.
Instead, shipping costs must in the future be defined exclusively using item- or weight-based tiers. If you haven’t updated your FBM shipping templates yet, you should do so immediately. In the Amazon Seller Forum, sellers also report that certain shipping methods—such as Deutsche Post Großbrief, Maxibrief, or DHL Kleinpaket—can’t always be selected correctly in the new setup.
What do sellers need to consider?
Price-based shipping rules are turned off: Shipping templates that previously relied on the item value are no longer valid as of August 24, 2026. If you still had such rules enabled, you must replace them with weight- or item-based tiers. Without an update, incorrect or missing shipping options may appear in the listing.
Check shipping methods in the new setup: According to reports from the Amazon Seller Forum, certain shipping methods—such as Deutsche Post Großbrief, Maxibrief, DHL Paket, or Kleinpaket—are not always selectable as expected under the new shipping cost model. Shipping templates should therefore be checked manually in Seller Central under Settings > Shipping Settings and reconfigured if necessary.
Especially critical for small and low-cost products: If you sell low-priced items with tight margins—where shipping costs make up a significant portion of the calculation—you should map the new weight tiers carefully. A blanket carryover of old templates by Amazon is not guaranteed. We recommend opening each active shipping template individually and checking the assigned shipping methods as well as the cost tiers.
