Starting from June 1, 2026, a new method for calculating VAT will apply through Amazon’s VAT Calculation Service. This change is being implemented to comply with European requirements for electronic invoicing. VAT will now be calculated on a shipment level instead of per unit. As a result, the invoice amount, especially for multiple units, may differ from the previous calculation.

What do sellers need to be aware of?

  • Check invoice amounts and accounting: Since VAT will be calculated at the shipment level in the future, individual amounts per unit may vary slightly on invoices. Tax advisors and accounting systems should be informed in good time before June 1 to avoid reconciliation differences.

  • Pay special attention to Amazon Business customers: For B2B transactions via the Amazon Business website, a dedicated calculation logic applies – the net price is derived from the gross price, and VAT is then added to the total net amount. Those who mainly serve business customers should review the effects on net prices and margins using the updated examples in Section 10 of the VAT Calculation Service method.

  • No manual changes required: The transition will be carried out automatically by Amazon. Nevertheless, it is advisable to randomly check the first invoices and transaction reports after June 1 to ensure that your systems process the new amounts correctly.
