Starting from May 15, 2025, Amazon will change the FBA fees for the categories “Clothing & Accessories” as well as “Backpacks & Handbags”: Fees will in the future be calculated solely based on package dimensions and unit weight. Volumetric weight will no longer be considered. Instead of the previous 16 size tiers for small and standard packages, seven new package size classes will be introduced. For each size class, there is a base fee for the first 100 g plus a fixed amount for each additional 100 g.
What do sellers need to be aware of?
Check shipping costs & recalculate margins: Light but bulky garments will become cheaper in the future, as the previous surcharge for volumetric weight will be eliminated. Conversely, very dense, heavy items may become more expensive. Example: A down jacket with a unit weight of 750 g but a volumetric weight of 4.3 kg (dimensions: 39.2 × 27.9 × 19.8 cm) was previously charged based on the volumetric weight, resulting in a shipping fee of €5.69. From May 15, only the actual weight counts, which results in a shipping fee of €4.22 (basic fee of €3.73 plus €0.07 for each additional 100g). This saves about €1.47 per unit and significantly increases the margin.
Deliberately optimize packaging dimensions: Products should be packed as efficiently as possible to fall into a smaller package size class and benefit from lower shipping costs.
Did you know? With the Central Europe Program, you can additionally save 26 cents per unit in shipping fees by enabling storage in Poland and the Czech Republic. To do this, a VAT ID is required in both countries, and storage must be enabled in the settings for Fulfillment by Amazon.
