As of April 4, 2025, Amazon will automatically remove inventory that has been stored for more than 270 days, as well as all units classified as unsellable. Sellers must decide in Seller Central by April 3 at the latest whether to have old inventory removed, disposed of, or returned. If no selection is made, Amazon will initiate removal, disposal, donation, or liquidation without further notice. Removal orders cannot be canceled once created. Amazon emphasizes its commitment to the circular economy: According to Amazon, unsellable items are donated or recycled whenever possible.
What do sellers need to consider?
Review your inventory now and take action: Identify at-risk inventory in the “FBA Inventory” dashboard and initiate a removal or disposal order in good time or, if possible, actively sell the items before April 4 to avoid automatic measures.
Control automatic removals precisely: In “Fulfillment by Amazon > Automatic settings for sellable/unsellable inventory,” activate the automation and define exactly whether Amazon should return, dispose, or donate the inventory; this ensures the seller decides what happens to their goods.
Optimize inventory planning: Closely align sales forecasts with replenishments, keep inventory buffers low, and schedule regular sales promotions so that items never remain in FBA storage for more than 270 days, thus minimizing storage costs.
