The White Label Expo is the leading and world’s largest e-commerce trade show for manufacturers, retailers, and service providers in online commerce. It takes place annually in Las Vegas, New York, London, and Frankfurt and brings together the latest trends, technologies, and products.

In May 2024, Valuezon participated as an exhibitor for the first time—on May 8th and 9th in Las Vegas. Here are our 10 key learnings you should know if you dare to take the step from trade show visitor to exhibitor.

Learning 1 – Stand Out at Any Cost: Why a Thoughtful Trade Show Concept is Essential

A good booth with a clear message and appealing design attracts visitors—and invites conversations. Offer an easily understandable solution to a problem that comes across in just a few seconds. A picture is worth a thousand words.

To stand out among the many booths and attract visitors, a well-prepared trade show concept is essential. If a clear concept is missing, the booth appears chaotic and uninteresting—potential customers simply walk by. Most people pass a booth within a few seconds, trying to figure out what the company does. It helps to use big headlines and get to the point quickly. Offer your potential customers an easy-to-understand solution to their problem to spark their interest.

Learning 2 – Strategy Is Everything: The Game Plan for the Perfect Trade Show Appearance

What goes without saying as a visitor becomes even more important as an exhibitor. Set your strategy in advance and define concrete goals: What do you want to achieve at the trade show? This could be generating leads, increasing brand awareness, or presenting new products. Your concept should also include a clear distribution of team roles—who does what? Designing an attractive booth and planning activities like product demos or raffles are just as important as the follow-up processes you set for collected leads after the show.

Learning 3 – Location, Location, Location: The Importance of the Right Booth Placement

The placement of a trade show booth is crucial as it directly affects visibility and visitor interactions. Corner booths offer more visibility and access from several sides. Booths near presentation stages benefit from additional traffic and attention. Locations near entrances or main aisles attract more visitors, while remote areas are less frequented. It’s therefore worthwhile to book early and, if necessary, invest extra in a good location.

Learning 4 – Clear and Captivating: Your Message Must Spark Interest

A trade show booth must catch attention to attract visitors and spark interest. Besides the already mentioned branding, a clear message is crucial. Powerful slogans draw attention and are memorable. Our headline was “Conquer Europe with Us”—this made people curious about what exactly they could “conquer.” We also displayed images of major European landmarks on the back of our booth, which sparked additional interest among passing attendees.

Learning 5 – Presentations as a Magnet: How to Generate Leads with Talks

Presentations at trade shows are an excellent opportunity to demonstrate authority and expertise. With a well-prepared presentation, you attract attention, showcase your expertise, and position yourself as an expert in your field. After your talk, you should take time to have personal conversations and answer questions from interested attendees. This fosters direct exchange, builds trust, and generates valuable leads. It’s also a good idea to have an extra person available during the talk so you can simultaneously engage with other interested visitors.

Learning 6 – Freebies & Giveaways: Small Gifts, Big Impact

Freebies or giveaways at your trade show booth are an extremely effective way to attract more attention and encourage contacts from passing visitors. Small gifts attract interested parties, spark curiosity, and can make it much easier to start a conversation. They remain memorable, especially if they are useful or creative giveaways. A well-thought-out giveaway can significantly boost the success of your trade show appearance.

Learning 7 – Giveaways: The Perfect Icebreaker and Contact Generator

Much like giveaways, a prize draw can draw attention to your booth and spark interest. Prize draws motivate visitors to get in touch with you and leave their contact details—a great source of leads. Additionally, it creates a playful atmosphere that lowers barriers and makes starting conversations easier. Prize draws also increase the amount of time visitors spend at the booth, giving you more opportunity to present your products or services.

Learning 8 – Know Your Competition: Study Exhibitor Lists to Position Yourself Strategically

Studying the exhibitor lists in advance is crucial to get to know your competition. Take a look at what other companies are offering and study their business models. This way, you can highlight your own strengths and target customers even more effectively. If competitors have been exhibiting for several years, it indicates high demand from visitors. You can also learn from competitors’ best practices and identify potential gaps in the market.

Learning 9 – Paper Is a Thing of the Past: QR Codes Are the New Business Cards

QR codes are becoming increasingly widespread and are gradually replacing traditional business cards—especially at trade fairs like the White Label Expo, where attendees tend to be digitally savvy. Younger participants in particular often carry a QR code that, when scanned, provides access to all their relevant information. It was surprising to see how astonished some visitors were when we handed them a physical business card. Although QR codes are practical, a high-quality physical card has its own charm—it makes a connection feel more tangible and allows you to jot down notes. Everyone should decide for themselves how to handle this, but the trend toward QR codes is unmistakable—thanks in part to COVID!

Learning 10 – Success Through Follow-up: Why Following Up Is So Important

A good follow-up is essential for a successful trade fair and often determines long-term success. At the fair itself, you should use targeted questions to understand the needs and problems of your prospects so that you can address them in your follow-up. Wait about a week after the event before contacting your leads—by then, the post-event stress will have subsided. Keep your messages brief and focus on quickly scheduling a personal conversation. Consistency is key: stay on top of things, set reminders for unanswered emails, and add your leads to your mailing list so you can regularly send them informative content.

Conclusion

For us, the White Label Expo in Las Vegas was a fantastic experience and a great opportunity to make new international contacts and present Valuezon in the USA. We are drawing a positive conclusion and are excited to see what great partnerships will arise. We will definitely take the experiences we gained to the next event. Who knows—maybe we’ll meet you there in person, perhaps even as an exhibitor.
